My first FMQ

Yay, my first FMQ quilt! I need to put the binding on but it is quilted all over with loops and swirls and I am particularly pleased that when you turn it over the quilting is distributed evenly - I had a fear that it would be far apart in some bits and close together in others. My daughter likes it, though I have explained that it was just for practice - close inspection bears this out as there are, shall we say, some interesting variances in stitch length here and there and some rather wobbly lines in the border :-) This top is about 40 X 57 inches - what I think I'll do soon is to make a couple of smaller charity quilts to get more practice in. But all in all it has turned out OK for a first attempt.

And for my next project ...
I have started cutting out a pattern in florals but not much to see yet so no pic.

Congratulations....looks good to me. Glad to know you are allowed to water your garden. We hear it is really hot.

Looks fabulous Fiona - well done you!

I've been FMQing for years and my stitch lengths are nowhere near even - I just don't let the quilt police anywhere near them :o)

The hearts round the edge are very pretty

Cot sized quilts are the best size to practice on if you're doing charity quilts

Well done Fiona! I really think the first FMQ is the hardest, and the more you practice, the easier it gets! One of my friends can write names with her quilting! The quilt looks great, and isn't it wonderful to be able to finish something so quickly!

Congratulations! I have been struggling to improve my free motion quilting. It just takes practice and I NEVER let anyone look too closely at my work. I also think we have a tendency to be far more critical of our own work than others would. Relax and enjoy.

Happy Dance!! Good job! Love the heart border, you did a fantastic job on it all! I'm glad the foot came and it's a better one...always blame the foot never the worker!! Your daughter will love it no matter the stitch size!

I love the hearts. What a great job!!!! Do you arms hurt? I know when I do free motion quilting it's like I'm so tense that my shoulders really hurt. I love the quilt. Looks like a teenage girl...

Hi Fiona, the FMQ looks wonderful to me. I think it was a good block choice, and really brave on your part. I know it will go better with practice. Almost everything does..*VBS*

If it were mine, I'd love it !! Keep up the great work, hugs, Finn

It looks great from here! I do love those colors. And it looks so textural because of the free motion quilting.

That is great free motion work. I will be doing my first stippling on the quilt I am working on now. I hope everything turns out okay because the birthday is next weekend!
