Depression Block

Haven't posted any sewing lately but I have been working on a depression block quilt. This is my test block - I have nearly cut out enough HSTs for setting the blocks 4 X 5, just need to cut a few more dark ones. Then I'll jumble them all up and see what comes out - nice and scrappy, just the way I like it. I'm hoping to get some sewing done on it this weekend.

I'm anxious to see how this progresses, as I have been thinking of doing a depression block quilt one of these days. Love the scrappiness of it.

Fiona - I recognise that sand spotted fabric at the front - I bought an end of bolt in that at Malvern and have a UFO in sands and light blues for a friend somewhere up in the loft in a box from our house move last September - one of the ones I must get out once I've finished this ostrich

Oh Fiona, I love that block!! And yours is so nicely light and dark!

I came across that block one day browsing on Quilters Cache(I'm mostly a work from a block pattern person) and just had to make it.
I showed it on my blog a few months back...LOL..got Joanne at ROcking on the Porch all stirred up and she went and made a whole quilt..right then!!! I'm just doing it as a "pick at" project. I make up a few squares of HST's inbetween other stuff, get them sized and then have good sew making up two or 3 blocks at a time.
You triangles look wonderful. Nice to have all the cutting done. That's the part that hard on my back and legs, altho I'm learning to cut sitting on a stool. Can hardly wait to see you quilt top!! *VBS*

The fabric is great! I love scrapy quilts!
Did you decide to cut up that cute little dress? I know the feeling, regarding some of my daughters clothes. I always wonder if it's worth cutting.
Enjoy your sewing weekend!

Fiona - I don't know how you can say what you did on my blog about feeling incompetent :o) - I could no more get a block like your depression one to look any bit right than fly - points to match, bias edges to stitch straight - aaaaargghh I can feel a twitch coming over me right here and now ;c) Good job we're not all the same - We'd end up with a world full of log cabins and not much else!

Humm, I do believe I have this pattern started somewhere. I wonder where. Yours is looking great. Be sure to post the quilt when finished.

The depression block is the nicest once I've seen out there. I can't wait to see the whole top when pieced - do post. Scrappy is my favorite :)
