Good news - I did get the job I applied for, and it's a promotion as it's a grade higher than I'm on currently. It is a strange situation though, as some people didn't get through so although I'm pleased and relieved for myself, it still feels a bit flat because you feel for them having to reapply at the next grade down - anyway, enough of that, this blog is about what I like to do, not what I have to do (to pay for all that lovely fabric, templates, thread, etc, etc.)

The pic is of a couple of postcards I made for friends this weekend past - one has just moved house and the other has her 40th birthday in a couple of weeks. I must say I really enjoy making these cards - they are so quick and simple to do. They are stiffened with a product called Timtex, it's like a very thick interfacing but really easy to sew through - it's the same product used to make fabric bowls.

Congratulations Fiona - good to hear some good news on the job front for someone :o) It's a bit like survivor guilt after an accident being in that situation against other applicants that you know and have worked with. Why do companies treat people like that?!?

Love the postcards - not tried any but I really like the 40th - what a lovely thoughtful way to mark a special b'day - and it will last and can be pinned up somewhere - more durable than a paper card - you've used that variegated thread again for the edge - it is so effective. Where do you get the timtex from and is it expensive? That looks like a Tonya style house :o)

Congrats on the new job-- Silly question? How did you learn to do the postcards. They're adorable. I'd love to learn--

Hey - I read some of your old entries and found the red shoe rambling sight. I'm going shopping for the timtex in Green Bay next week, and I'm goig to give it a try. My mom would love these.
Great idea

Anne - I got the Timtex from www.creativegrids.co.uk (think that's the address but you can find it on google). I suggest that you put timtex into their search facility because it was in a weird section - templates I think. It was £7.50 for a metre but that would make loads of postcards. I think it would also be good for the bottoms of bags. This is the link to the instructions on Red Shoe Ramblings http://debrichardson.blogspot.com/2005/09/how-to-make-fabric-postcard-debr-style.html
You could also 'write' on the postcards in FMQ - I nearly did that on the house one but chickened out!

Great cards! They really are pretty. Do you mail the cards, or hand deliver them? If you mail them, do you put them in envelopes or just put postage on the back side?

Congrats on the job!

Hi Lois - I put them in envelopes. I'm not convinced the stamp would stay on if I mailed them as they are and they fit just nicely in a C6 envelope.

Wow..congratulations on the job and the upgrade..*VBS*

Love your little fabric cards. I'm not familiar with that product, but sounds like it's just what is needed to do the trick!

Your postcards are wonderful! I have yet to try my hand at making any but plan to at some point.
