Bucket Bag

Some posts ago I said I was making a bag but that I wouldn't put up any photos yet because (a) it wasn't finished and (b) my son wasn't very complimentary about it. Well, I'm glad to say he has changed his mind now that I've put bindings on the edges and added the handles - it has a circular bottom so it is a bit like a bucket, though you can't see that so well in the picture. I quilted it using a decorative zig zag stitch and variegated thread. I really like plaids, this was made from charity shop shirts and I would like to make a whole quilt in them one of these days. I've just realised I should have turned the bag round to show the different fabrics on the other side - never mind, you'll' just have to trust me.

I'm taking a day's holiday from work today - the weather is good so why not? Hope to get some sewing done but I fear that I may have to tidy up a bit first and I've got some errands to run.

very cute bag!! what is the pattern?

Hi Kim, gald you liked it. The pattern is from Lise Bergene's book, 'A Passion for Patchwork'. It's really easy to make - just a circle for the bottom and a rectangle that is sewn round it - you could use any patchwork pattern as long as the final rectangle is the right size - about 30" in length, to fit a circle for the bottom 9.5" diameter.

Sounds like some maths in hand to work that one out - -vaguely remember 2 pi R etc from school etc - love the bag - especially the plaids - what is it about all those shirts in charity shops and jumble sales - I'm a sucker for them too - check out Bonnie's Smokey Mountain Stars on Quiltville for a shirt quilt - been meaning to make a bag for a while - might have to have a go once I've got all these bullseyes out of my system :o)

I love bags. Seeing yours, makes me want to get busy and make a new one. I teach sunday school, and every week bring my supplies in quilted bags. When I make my mom a quilt, I always used the scraps to make a matching bag, that way she says she 'can keep the quilt close to her when she's away from home.'

Hi Fiona, I love your bucket bag, what a neat idea. I think you did a really great job of it!!

And as a scrappy quilter, I applaud your creativity in coming up with fabric. I've heard from a couple of other gals how "over the moon" fabric prices are in the UK..maybe all of Europe. I see nothing wrong, and most everything right about using different sources of fabric. Goodness knows now a days poeple rarely wear out their clothing..*VBS*
I truly look forward to seeing more of your creations. Hugs, Finn

P.S. I haven't forgotten about Pearl, I just haven't gone into the moving boxes to find her as yet *S*

Very Pretty!!! Love the plaids! I'm always looking for great looking non-leather bags and I've been wanting to make a quilted one for a while now. Maybe I'll try this one!

What fun! And it does look like you have fun putting all those different plaids together. Your bag and quilts are most appealing.
