London Eye

A couple of pics taken from the London Eye, 'the world's tallest observation wheel' on the bank of the Thames. The views are great but we won't mention the hour and a half that we waited in the queue, even though we had pre-purchased tickets. We have been in London for the weekend with my Mum and my brother and his wife to celebrate my Mum's 70th birthday. The trip also included a visit to the Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising, a real nostalgia fest of all the brands that we grew up with here in the UK. The museum sprang from the collection of one man, Robert Opie, who collected all sorts of packets and tins. It has moved to London from Gloucester and is in the chic Notting Hill area, very close to the Portobello Road Antique Market.

We always seem to run out of time on trips like this, we wanted to go to Liberty's, but couldn't make it there before catching our train back to Leicester. We don't go to London all that often, yet the journey there only took an hour and ten minutes by train and you can get fairly cheap tickets now if you book well in advance. Soooo, no sewing this weekend.

Cute photos, shame you had to wait so long - when I was there two years ago in summer with my son there was no waiting at all - we also had prepaid tickets, we pick them up and went directly on board... I guess we were lucky then...

I remember Robert Opie's museum in Gloucester Docks when we lived there - everyone thought it was a real shame when the premises were sold out beneath his feet so to speak - glad he's found a new home and a super little museum collection didn't bite the dust - the London Eye is awesome and it looks like you were lucky with the weather for viewing

Your pics are beautiful - grays and blues and whites. Glad to hear you had a good weekend with your Mom. Happy 70th to your Mom!

Thank you for the pictures. I have seen only the airport in 1995 - no time to visit London. Perhaps - one time! Gratulation to your Mom!

Fiona,
great pics! I'm like you. I can get to NYC in an hour and 1/2 but only get there once or twice a year. London is on my short list of places to visit in the very near future. Liberty is definitely a stop I will be making.

I still need to come and see for myself one day as my younger son has lived there 5 years now and still his folks haven't been able to visit!( it's quite a hop and a skip from NZ! )

I love the London Eye, though we didn't do it on our last visit. Liberty! Huge, huge disappointment. When was the last time you went? Admittedly it was sale time last month, but they have moved out of the front building. The Fabric Dept had nothing in it apart from their Tara Lawn blouses, lavander bags and "tourist" stuff. No bolts, no FQ's. I nearly cried!
