This'n'that

Just been pottering really, I was off work from Wednesday to Friday because it's half term and the kids are off school. It was my birthday on Friday which I never seem to have to work because it always coincides with the school holidays. I don't know what the postman thought of the card from my friend 'S', as it was addressed to 'Dollface' which is what she calls me. Anyone with a face less like a doll than me would be hard to imagine, but I always laugh because it makes me feel like a gangster's moll from the 1930's.

Once again, I have not been able to quilt, because DS has renewed his enthusiasm for the art. He finished off his second quilt and then started on his biggest quilt top to date with 6 1/2 inch squares. The gorgeous novelty fabrics are all courtesy of the amazing generosity of Amy, the Calico Cat. When I posted about DS and his quilting last year, she sent a huge parcel of novelty prints for him. He just loves them and the ones you see in the picture are just the tip of the iceberg, there must be enough for another 3 or 4 quilts besides.

I made a couple of purchases from the Charity Shop on Saturday - this lovely flowered tape measure and a great big tray which I shall paint as it is currently a vile shade of orange. I find trays really useful for putting blocks and patches in whilst I'm working on a top.

If nothing else, those novelties are addictive!

Happy Birthday Fionna! Using trays for organizing blocks and patches are very interesting. I looked again an older post and the fabric pieces on the tray look wonderful. This tray shape is beautiful.

Happy Birthday Fiona! Hope you have a beautiful birthday.

The tray is beautiful and looks like a very handy shape to have. I can't wait to see how you transform it.

Belated Happy Birthday! Not sure about being "Doll Face" but I think we can call you "Pretty Polly," now. They are delightful.

What fun to see a budding quilter at work *s*

I think it's just darling that your son is interested in quilting! Definitely something to be encouraged. Amy is mildly interested, she has to be in the mood, and there must be nothing else to divert her attention ... then she loves it!

My three sons all made their own quilts and nearly wore them out over the years. Good to see quilting isn't gender-linked!
I like trays too, you can organise things nice and flat and even stack them if you have to. But you're right, the orange will have to go.

A belated Happy Birthday! The tray looks very useful. I have to used trays or pillow to carry my blocks since the kitties love to rearrange them!

Happy Birthday Fiona - love the measure tape, very pretty and the tray is a brilliant idea - will have to keep my eyes peeled for something like that, ideal for moving a wip out of the way in a hurry when the MIL calls

Hello Fiona, and a happy belated birthday Dollface, it's an adorable nickname..*VBS* Matches your personality, if not your actual face..*G*
What a great thing that DS wants to make quilts. I think boys often are excellent sewers and quilt makers if they just "let" themselves go and enjoy it. It's so much an art form, you'd think people would recognize that. The prints are wonderful and hurray for enough to keep him stitching. Big birthday hugs, Finn

Happy birthday Fiona! I think it is great that you are encouraging your son to quilt, even though it means you have to share your machine.
